Chef Hourig Mekhtigian
Tamara Haus | Cairo
Hourig Mekhtigian is a designer and culinary enthusiast whose work bridges design, culture, and cuisine. Noted for her creative vision, Hourig brings the same artistry and precision to the kitchen, where she enjoys a different form of expression. Her first creation for Tchaï was a chocolate fudge called "Kemet". A signature delicacy that is famous amongst her entourage.
At Tchaï , Hourig draws on her Armenian heritage alongside downtown’s cosmopolitan heritage, curating a seasonal menu that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern.
Her work has been showcased at various brand launch exhibitions like Analogue and culinary platforms such as Cairo Food Week, where she was celebrated for her ability to translate architectural discipline into flavor, texture, and presentation. She also recently has been featured in leading international publications such as Condé Nast. Today, Hourig shares her time between the two practices allowing her to widen perspectives and understand food not only as nourishment, but also and mainly as a way of respecting the cultural significance behind the culinary realm. Through Tchaï, she continues to shape a dining experience that is intimate and layered, all while trying to push the boundaries of how culinary heritage can be experienced in contemporary Egypt.
